Protein Shake
February 21 2019

Check out these two protein shakes I swear to live by. For you whey lovers, the jam packed strawberry shake will be a hit. But for those who prefer to stay away from whey or anything dairy, try the matcha shake (It's vegan friendly)! I indulged in the matcha shake almost every day during the #SixWithNix whole foods challenge with Nikki Korek.

For those struggling to get those calories in, throw in a tbsp or two of chia seeds.

Chia seeds are:

  • a great source of Omega-3 fatty acids

  • they are loaded with antioxidants

  • lower your risk of heart disease

Collagen you ask? If it ain't in the protein shake, I'm not having it. Some of you might know that powdered or liquid forms of Collagen usually don't taste the best; but if you throw it in your shakes, smoothies or even coffee, you won't taste it.

Collagen provides SOOO many health benefits such as:

  1. Improves skin elasticity, reduces wrinkles, and increases skin moisture

  2. Strengthens bones and prevents bone loss

  3. Relief from joint pain

  4. Boosts muscle mass

  5. And yes ladies.. promotes hair building proteins and healthy nail growth

Why Amy is going keto and you should too!

May 31 2019
Keto
  1. Lowers your blood sugar and insulin levels. & as a diabetic, the older I get the more vigilant I have to be about my health. This is going to help me achieve a lower A1C (average glucose levels over a 3 month period).
  2. Lowers your blood pressure.
  3. Aids in weight loss. Especially some stubborn areas in the abdomen.
  4. You are feeding your body good fats, proteins and limited healthy carbs.

I am doing Keto simaltaneusoly with Intermittent Fasting. Most people use the 16:8 ratio. Fast for 16 hours and do all your eating within the 8 hours.
For example: I will eat three large Keto meals between 12pm- 8pm. From 8pm -12pm I will fast.

Myth: It's only good for weight loss.

It actually helps cut inflammation & bloating.
Reduces depressive symptoms and boosts your energy levels
Reduces sugar and food cravings.
Potentially increases your lifespan.

Myth: It is mainly meat based.

Consuming too much meat will actually take you out of ketosis. You are eating more fats than anything else.  60-80% of your macronutrients are coming from healthy fats.

Myth: Keto is just avocados and chicken.

Well... yes avocados and chicken! But that's not all. You can get creative and make some pretty delicious meals. Guacamole shrimp salad, frittatas, pesto chicken over spaghetti squash noodles, Keto desserts and wine!
Stay tuned for some tasty meal prep ideas and pictures!

REMEMBER TO ALWAYS CONSULT WITH YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT BEGINNING KETO OR INTERMITTENT FASTING.
