San Diego, California

America's Finest City

1. 5th Ave

This is like the Granville Entertain District, but it's really not at all. 5th Ave is where you can say "it's got to be 5 o'clock somewhere!" It's right in the middle of the Gaslamp District, amazing food, bars and entertainment. It's only a 20 min walk to Little Italy or an 8 min Uber.

2.USA Hostel

I have never stayed in hostels before, but I'm so glad my first experience went well. USA Hostels located right in the middle of 5th Ave was central to everything. It was so cheap, clean and safe. The staff were super friendly and threw cool events each night in the building. There was free breakfast!! Which hostel does that? I'll be staying again!

Check them out if you're travelling, they have many locations!

3. Good Eats

Amy was not going to San Diego to not indulge in tacos.

  1. La Puerta (located on 4th Ave)--> Like they've stated on their site. Tacos, Tunes and Tequila. Everything tasted so authentic and flavourful. (Mexican food is everywhere)

  2. Nekter--> (in Marketplace) We found our protein smoothies to power through the day and to make up for our love: Body Energy Club!

  3. Ugly Coyote--> (5th Ave) We stumbled upon this restaraunt and bar in the morning for some food and boy did I want to know how the place was in the evening. The burger and wings were delicious and the bartender sang karaoke for us and danced on the bar top!

  4. 5th Avenue New York Pizza--> Now this is if you're staying in the Gaslamp District and need some late night food after a night out. There was pizza, pizza everywhere in San Diego.

4. San Diego Zoo

When I asked everyone I know who has been to San Diego, they were adamant I choose the Zoo over Seaworld at any cost. They were definitley right! You need the whole day to see everything. I would start by doing the guided bus tour to see where to begin your day. You can also take the SkyFari for an aerial view of the Zoo. If you are running short on time, I would skip the bus tour and start zipping through all the animals. The flamingos, monkeys and polar bears were my absolute favourite!
